Facebook Importing Tool:
The tool will be written using MySql and Php. Ruby on Rails is acceptable too. I am integrating it into Socal Engine V3 but for the purposes of finding a provider there will be no require that it integrates. Integrating the application will be the next step.
Requirements:
-Written in PHP or ROR/mysql (preferably PHP)
-Application gathers tagged photos and albums from the users facebook account.
-Photos get stored on the server under a unique folder name specifice for user
-Thumbnails of photos are also stored in the same directory
-Statistics are written to two mysql tables.
-Provider has a available testing server to demonstrate the script.
Process:
1) The user enters their facebook username and login on the first page of the application and logs them into facebook.
2) A radio box list is provided to user of which they can choose only one.
a. Import Tagged Pictures
b. Import Only My Photo Albums
c. Import My Photo Albums and Tagged Pictures
d. Update (resync)
3) The importing of tagged pictures is handled through the Facebook APIÂs. An album is created in the users profile directory Âtagged picturesÂ.
a. A table is written to that has all the unique identifiers of the pictures to prevent them from being imported again.
4) If albums are selected, a page showing a thumbnail of each album is displayed with a check box next to it. The user has the ability to uncheck albums they do not want imported. The user clicks on import.
a. A pop up is displayed stating that they must login to resync the albums or tagged pictures.
b. A table is written to that has all the unique identifiers of the pictures to prevent them from being imported again.
5) ~1 If Update is selected, the user is prompted to ÂUpdate albums or ÂTagged photosÂ. The application queries the database and compares the photos in fb to the db and notifies how many photos will be added and inserted into the appropriate album. It then runs the import and logs the updated photos so they will not be imported again.
~1. A method has to be developed to uniquely identify what pictures on facebook have been transferred. This will depend on how FB either names the pictures or some other way of uniquely identifying them. Much of this will depend on facebookÂs APIÂs.
