I am looking for a sharepoint / .NET consultant that can build a .NET membership provider, etc to manage users for a WSS 3.0 site.  All user registration or management is currently done by Windows, which is not ideal.  The solution needs to automate registration, custom profile data, some logic, and user name/passwords.  All custom items are mocked up in excel and in infopath.  You can find some information on the membership provider here ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa530759.aspx )

There is one "odd" requirement. This is for a MLM (multi-level marketing) company and in this cases the users of the WSS site will essentially be competitors. Therefore, the use of groups as they are typically used in sharepoint is inappropriate. The membership provider needs to manage permissions and groups in SharePoint such that each user can only see themselves, the owner of the MLM company (also a sharepoint user), and any agents they recruit into the MLM organization (aka downline agents).
